Whoever hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matt. 7:24-27.
Jesus does not say that those who hear him and put his words into practice will not face obstacles. Quite the contrary. you will face rain, rising streams and winds beating against you. But his promise is that you will not fall. Contrast that with those who hear him and don't put his words into practice: the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.
It's striking that Jesus does not promise a life without hardship. But he does promise he will be with you.
