Church I Would Like
Below is an outline of a church I would like to be part of. This is not how I think all churches should be organized. Believers like to be organized in different ways. This is simply what would appeal to me.
- No paid staff. All leaders would volunteer. They would be working in the world. They would be regular folks, who understand the challenges of working for the man, running their own business, paying bills, shuttling kids, making dinner - all while trying to spend time with God.
- Meet only once a week. The church would only meet once a week. There would be no mid-week activities to pull people away from their families.
- Simple two hour weekly meeting. The church would meet in a rented facility - a gym or a big room. A teacher would speak to everyone, including kids, for 30 minutes with some music for worship (not contemporary Christian rock). Then we would break into small groups and share a meal. Then we would go home. That's it.
- No advertising or marketing. The church would not advertise or market itself. The objective would be to glorify God and enjoy him, not to grow an organization.
- Limited offering. The weekely offering, collection, would be needed only to cover the rental of the meeting room and other related misc. expenses.
