God With Us

Matthew 1.

This is no accident. The plan was laid from the beginning of time and recorded by the prophets. The most powerful act of history was occurring through the most ordinary of people, Mary and Joseph, in the most humble of ways, a baby born in a barn.

The angel gave Joseph two instructions: Take Mary to be your wife. She is pregnant by the Holy Spirit. And name the son Jesus. How could Joseph have known what was really afoot when he resolved to obey the angel’s charge?

Most of what God does is background, even the birth of his son in our world. What we see with our eyes is the tip of the iceberg. So much more is happening. His work is often unseen, but nonetheless an inevitable all powerful force.

Don’t be dismayed by the problems and challenges you face. He hears your prayers and has already acted, though you may not see it yet.

And they will call him Immanuel, which means God with us.
